TOURS: KAYAKING, FISHING, WILDLIFE

Fishing Tour

Ometepe is spectacular from the lake with stunning scenery and incredible settings, making the experience of fishing in the shadow of the volcanoes something very special.

We offer guided Kayak fishing tours in supremely stable, comfortable and easy to manage inflatable kayaks, which are very robust and make superb fishing platforms. We can provide tackle, but fly fishers and serious fisherman traveling with their own kit are most definitely welcomed.

We will fish for Guapote (Rainbow Bass), Savalo (Small Tarpon) and Mojara with the objective of creating a wonderful fish dinner. I have been fishing the lake for many years and know the very best locations and techniques for this area. We will drive to the optimum locations for fishing and scenery, giving you the best chances of catching, whilst also ensuring that we spend time in the most picturesque settings. With a backdrop of three volcanoes as the sun goes down and howler monkeys barking from the trees we’re assured of success, even if we catch nothing!

This is a highly personalised trip and we only take one fisherman so we can focus on the job. It is a door to door service so we drive in a 4x4 from the Finca to where we need to be. After fishing we return to the farm and create a meal based on the fish we’ve caught and locally inspired recipes.

Price: $75

Finca Campestre

Pizza in the Woods

PIZZA IN THE WOODS

A half day excursion at Finca Campestre, finishing with a meal prepared in the farm's bakery using farm-fresh ingredients, enjoyed on the veranda of the farmhouse.

We’ll be show-casing the best of Ometepe’s locally sourced and seasonal produce as well as items grown on the farm and take a pleasant appetite-building walk through the property with Campestre owner Ben Slow. Ben will discuss his passion for open fire cooking, brick ovens, pigs and sustainable tropical agriculture as well as his experiences living here in Nicaragua.

This is a hands-on afternoon. We’ll be building wood fires, baking pizzas in the brick oven, picking and mixing salads and discussing life here on Ometepe and in Nicaragua, as well as having our family style open air dinner at the farm house.

Discover the real Ometepe

LAS CUCHILLAS VILLAGE, COFFEE PLANTATION AND WATERFALL HIKE

This tour and hike offers a historical insight into the lives of the people of Ometepe. We will walk on scarecely-used trails through lush, dense cloud forest to the water source for the main coffee-producing village of the area, Las Cuchillas and its Jerusalem Waterfall.

We look at the life of the local people and how that is changing by visiting the villages and farms in the area. We will see many magnificent petroglyphs (ancient rock art) demonstrating just how long this area has been settled and its trails have been in use.

We follow the trail up to Las Cuchillas, the highest and most traditional village on the island and visit local subsistence farmers living directly off the land and from the forest. The village receives its water from the Jerusalem Waterfall, which is another 35-minute trek above the village on seldom-used trails.

Our trail passes through the agricultural zone and winds through dense cloud forest following a steep-sided ravine until it reaches the waterfall, which provides Las Cuchillas with its lifeline. Few people ever use this route. We will see a variety of orchids and bromeliads as well as butterflies, birds and insects on the way, and if we're lucky maybe some other animals that inhabit the forest such as monkeys, land crabs, lizards and possibly deer or “guatuse”.

The tour takes approximately 5 or 6 hours to complete and is moderately strenuous. We start at 9am and a great packed lunch is provided.

2 litres (min) of water. Refill at the waterfall optional.
